Hakka Ngin:
An Online Magazine and Creative Platform
Hakka Ngin is an online magazine and creative platform centered on Hakka—a Chinese language variety historically spoken by migrant communities across southern China and the global diaspora. The name means “guest family,” reflecting histories of movement and adaptation. The project began with a personal observation in Tahiti, where many Chinese descendants are Hakka—yet while grandparents still speak the dialect, grandchildren often reply in French. Faced with the fading of the language, Hakka Ngin calls for more visually compelling, youth-driven cultural work. Through global collaborations, storytelling, and interdisciplinary creation, it reimagines Hakka as a metaphor for diaspora, identity, and collective memory.
